San José is known as the “queen” of San Antonio’s missions for a reason: its stone arches and carvings are undeniably a sight to see. To check out all of the missions, rent a bike at the Blue Star Bike Shop and ride the eight-mile trail between them.

Get lost in 23 acres of green, sculpture-laden grounds; then, head inside the museum — half 1920’s Spanish Revival-style mansion, half modern glass gallery — to view the artwork of masters like Pablo Picasso and Georgia O’Keeffe. (Take note: entrance fees are waived on Thursday evenings and the first Sunday of the month.)

This ornate theater introduced air conditioning to San Antonio (ladies wore fur coats to its opening in 1929). These days, the Majestic hosts concerts and traveling Broadway productions like Wicked and Book of Mormon, but its night sky ceiling — complete with twinkling stars and clouds that move in and out of view — is worth a stop alone.
